Fake Plastic Tree - Thom York

Fake plastic tree is definitely one of most memorable songs for me during the 90 decade, the britpop glorious decade. There are tons of reasons why I was so into radiohead music back then. Some of the reasons being Thom York voice is absolutely the most mesmerizing voice I’ve ever heard out of those punches of brit-pop bands in this era. But the main reasoning is that at first glance, lyrics of most of his songs are really hard to comprehensive at first glance, but if you actually combine the issues that’s happening in the worlds or the essence of living, you would have the glimpse of idea what his lyrics are actually mean.

However, not all of his lyrics are that complicated, he still have other songs that was so straightforward such as creep, which is again, one of my favourite out of his well of excellent ones. Take fake plastic tree as an example, some people think it addresses world issue and the song is symblically address the feeling of hopeless of living in this world that filled with fake people. While there are some people actually interpret it as a love song, covey the hopeless feeling or a long lost love affair. In my opinions, it doesn’t really matter what the song or lyrics means, because the only person know the true meaning is the composer himself i.e. Thom York. On top of that, to assume what a song means seems to me is just wasting time for nothing. Everyone would listen the song can interpute the song meanings as they like to believe, that’s what a great song is about, to make people think and relate to it. That’s all.
